Emerson Elementary is proud to participate in the SDUSD's outstanding
Arts Education Project (AEP) program!
What is AEP?
Specially trained visiting teachers provide standards-based and highly engaging visual and performing arts lessons to all students at Emerson. The students are given rotating arts instruction in three of the four arts disciplines: dance, music, theatre or visual art. Sequential, standards-based arts lessons have been written by VAPA resource teachers, who also train the visiting arts teachers on those lessons. Emerson students receive nine lessons, approximately one per month, for every classroom.
Why AEP?
While students receive instruction in the arts, grade level teachers and support staff are released for a three-hour block of collaborative time called, Professional Learning Communities (PLC)s. During the PLCs, teachers share expertise, and work collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.
