Response To Intervention (RTI)
What is RTI?
Students are most successful where there is a strong spirit of cooperation between home and school. Based on shared responsibility, the RTI Team meets at school to explore possibilities and strategies that will best support the educational and social/emotional needs of the individual student.
How Does It Work?
The Process:
Students are typically referred by the classroom teacher, but any member of the school staff may request support from the RTI Team for a student whose learning, behavior or emotional needs are not being met under existing circumstances.
Prior to the Initial RTI meeting, teachers have met to review classroom modifications that enhance learning for students. A modification maybe as simple as a change in seating location, a daily assignment sheet, or an increase in the use of visual teaching aids. Sometimes a simple change can make a big difference for a student.
Any modification that has been tired or is currently in place will be discussed with the parents and RTI Team members at the RTI meeting. Using this information, the team can suggest further steps to help the student.
The RTI Team Meeting:
Staff members will come prepared with information about the student. Information may include work samples, attendance records or assessment results. All information will be listed on the RTI Summary Form.
The RTI Summary form will contain areas of:
Student strengths, Information, Modifications, Areas of Concern, Questions, Strategies, Action Plan and Responsible Persons.
Other members of the team may include support staff, such as school nurse, school psychologist, resource teacher, speech language pathologist, administration and key team member parent/guardian of the student.
What is the future?
At the end of the meeting, a follow-up date will be scheduled to review progress. Parents will be invited again along with other team members present at the initial RTI meeting. Member will discuss and document outcome of RTI Plan, at the Initial RTI meeting.
Role of the Parent/Guardian in the RTI Process?

~Shares the child's strengths and concerns with school staff.
~Participates in the development of a positive intervention plan for their child.
